Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda

I'm not ready to talk about the NFL playoffs yet....had the Steelers simply beat the Ravens in the penultimate week, with everything that happened yesterday, they would have had the second AFC wild card spot instead of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Had they beaten any one of the AFC teams they lost to in the regular season (including the pathetic Oakland Raiders) they would have been in the playoffs.

Oh well, there's always next year...that and the fact that they are still the reigning (I can no longer say defending) SuperBowl champions.

I thought Denver held the tie-breaker over the hated Steelers? If Den, KC and Pit had all finished 9-7, how would that tie-breaking logic have worked again?

You're right, Den held the tie breaker over Pit. But Den and KC are in the same division, so the first act is to determine the top seed from each division, and then determine the tie break winner between those teams.

Whew! Then I guess there's no way around it: All hail the Ravens, for their sweep of the Steelers! Maybe they'll go all the way and win the Bowl this year! (Although my pick is still the Chargers.)
